# ChatGPT

You add the connector yourself, in Settings, with developer mode on. Then one prompt.

ChatGPT can hold a custom MCP server, and adding one is a person's job: the assistant cannot add a connector for itself. The setting sits behind developer mode, because a custom connector can read and write real data.

Custom connectors need a paid ChatGPT plan, and on a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace an admin has to allow them first. If you do not see the settings below, that is why.

## Add the connector

1. Open **Settings**, then **Connectors**.
2. Open **Advanced** and turn on **Developer mode**.
3. Back in **Connectors**, create a new connector.
4. Give it the name `Mana` and this address:

5. Choose **OAuth** for authentication. Mana runs the sign-in itself; there is no key to paste and no client id to register. If the form asks for one, leave it empty.
6. Save, then choose **Connect**. Your browser opens Mana's sign-in, you confirm once, and you come back.

## Then paste the prompt

In a new chat, turn on the Mana connector for that chat, then paste the prompt labelled **after you add the connector yourself** on [Start here](/docs). It tells the assistant to read the standing instructions, which carry the rules your organization keeps.

Do not paste the other prompt here. It asks the assistant to add an MCP server, which nothing in a browser chat can do.

## What works, and what to expect

Every Mana tool your grant carries is available, the same as in any other client. ChatGPT asks you to approve a tool the first time a chat uses it, and a chat with developer-mode connectors on will say so.

Reading is the strong case here: search the store, read a memory, get an answer with its evidence. Writing works too, and if you are storing a lot at once, an agent on your own machine is less clicking.

## When the connection is lost

Open **Settings**, **Connectors**, and connect Mana again. Nothing in the store is lost.

## Removing it

Open **Settings**, then **Connectors**, and delete the Mana connector. That disconnects this assistant and deletes nothing: see [Remove Mana](/docs/remove).
